I am writing to invite you to spend a great day with some of the brightest stars from the world of hockey, while doing something important for your community.
Canwest, National Post, and Global Winnipeg have partnered with the Steen family to launch a fundraising effort to help families in need. Thomas and Mona Steen, and their son Alexander and his wife Sofie, share with Canwest an important core value in their belief in the importance of giving back to the communities in which they live.
Thomas Steen spent 15 years as the heart and soul of the Winnipeg Jets, a hockey player who was an outstanding leader on the ice but also represented his adopted city with class and humility and who exemplified that spirit of giving back to the community.
Alex, up-and-coming star of the Toronto Maple Leafs and his wife Sofie are now following Thomas' excellent example. As part of his commitment to his childhood home, the Steens and Canwest have joined forces in Winnipeg to host the Canwest Steen Classic.
The Canwest Steen Classic is a charity golf event now in its second year and is fast becoming the premier charity golf event in the Manitoba. On August 28, 2008, we will gather again at Pine Ridge for the second annual event. The Canwest Steen Classic is a fantastic day on the golf course, a chance to meet a whole lot of new friends, stars from the hockey, and raise some money to help kids in need.
The Steen's have a long-standing relationship the Children's Hospital and have chosen to continue to work with them. Though the Amadeus Steen Foundation and after extensive consulting with the Children's Hospital, Doctors, Nurses, other health care providers as well as patients and their families, the hospital is about to start work on a major project in CH-4 in the form of a Step-up Unit.
Over the past decade, there has been an increase in the severity of patients seen in the Children's Hospital, but a shortage in pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) beds and staff. To combat this disparity, an action plan to implement a Step-up Unit has been developed. The Step-up Unit which will both free PICU beds for acute and postoperative care, and provide an enhanced level of monitoring and care for patients while still in a ward environment.
What will make this event truly special for you as a sponsor is the unique relationship between Canwest and the Steen family. Thomas and Alex utilize their extensive connections within the hockey community to ensure that there is plenty of high wattage star power playing alongside our sponsors at this event. In addition, Canwest brings to the table a formidable promotional machine with our media properties in Manitoba, to ensure your company gets the public recognition you deserve for participating.
Please take a look at the Sponsorship Information pages on this web site to see the levels of sponsorship that are available and we hope to see you at Pine Ridge on August 28th 2008.
Sincerely,
David Asper
