Canwest Steen Classic Golf Tournament
- The second annual Canwest Steen Classic Tournament is being held on August 28, 2008 at Pine Ridge Golf and Country Club.
- The Steen family’s ultimate goal for the tournament is to raise funds in support of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, to help make being in the hospital a better experience for both the kids and their families.
- In addition to the golf tournament, the Amadeus Steen Foundation Benefit will be held on the evening of August 27
- Participants in the Canwest Steen Classic include former Winnipeg Jets, current and former Toronto Maple Leafs and Minnesota Wild, plus other celebrities.
- Major Canwest Steen Classic sponsors include Canwest Global, presenting sponsor Kleysen Group LP, and Gold sponsor Fine Foods.
The Steen Family
- The Steen family first moved to Winnipeg from Sweden in 1981, when Thomas joined the Winnipeg Jets.
- Winnipeg and its arenas soon became home for the whole family as the Steens raised their three kids in Winnipeg, even after Thomas was no longer playing for the Winnipeg Jets.
- With a strong desire to support Winnipeg and its communities, the Steens saw the upcoming golf tournament as the ideal opportunity to do so.
Career Highlights for Thomas Steen
- 264 goals and 553 assists in 14 NHL seasons, all with the Winnipeg Jets
- Team Captain for the Winnipeg Jets
- 103rd overall in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft
- Number 25 jersey was raised in the Winnipeg Arena in honour of his great contribution to the Winnipeg Jets team. His jersey was also retired out of respect by the Phoenix Coyotes.

- Forward for Toronto Maple Leafs
- Toronto's first-round pick (24th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft
- 122 NHL career points; 5th leading point getter for the Leafs in 2007/8 with 42 points (15 goals, 27 assists)
The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba
- Established in 1971, the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba has donated more than $27 million dollars for pediatric medical research, with millions more supporting equipment upgrades and special programs at the Children’s Hospital of Winnipeg, which treats over 130,000 children annually.
- The aim of this independent agency is to raise and issue funds for the advancement of knowledge and care for child health research and play a positive role in improving the health of children.
